UCSB ranks eighth globally for interdisciplinary science

UC Santa Barbara has solidified its position as a leader in groundbreaking research, placing No. 8 worldwide in the 2025 Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings. The rankings, developed in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows, celebrate universities driving scientific excellence and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

UCSB joins a distinguished group in the top 10, which includes institutions like MIT, Stanford and the National University of Singapore. Representing diverse fields and fostering innovative connections, UCSB’s interdisciplinary work underscores its commitment to addressing complex global challenges.

This achievement places UCSB among the best in a field of 749 universities from 92 countries and highlights its global impact in science and research.
